What is SNAP?#what-is-snap
SNAP, or food stamps, is a federal program that helps qualifying Americans afford groceries by sending them money each month to supplement their food budget.
In 2023, the average SNAP benefit amount per household was $332. These benefits are sent out through an EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) card you can use to buy eligible groceries at any stores that accept EBT.
The process for applying for SNAP varies by state, but the program generally considers your income, household size, and immigration status to determine whether or not you qualify for help.
